Welcome to The Security Center

The Security Center is a platform dedicated to helping families navigate the challenges of online safety for children and young adults in today's evolving digital world. The Security Center began as an idea to address how children and young adults' online activity is evolving, and how families can respond to the growing challenges of online safety. In trying to avoid the 'Back in my day' spiel, I will say this: Children on the internet are getting younger and younger, and the internet continues to get more dangerous. Kids are using Social Media more than ever. They need to be protected.

I will always be the last person to tell someone to take their kid's devices away or restrict them entirely. I think the internet can be a valuable place of connection and education. I simply believe we need a solution, or a model of education that teaches these kids how to navigate the internet in a safer way.

Here is where the Security Center comes in. The Security Center is envisioned as a hub where parents and guardians can access expert advice, community support, and educational resources to help children navigate the online world safely. I do not claim to have all the answers, my goal is to seek them and share what I learn with families. In the search for answers, I will attempt to share what I have learned and will learn from various professionals and work towards building a holistic solution that families can look towards to help themselves or in times of distress.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution. Parenting in the digital age is a unique challenge in balancing trust, privacy, and protection. The Security Center aims to provide knowledge and tools to navigate these nuances. Through in-depth interviews with psychologists, educators, law enforcement, and other experts, I aim to gather their insights and relay this advice to parents using a public health model. This will include creating online forums, hosting expert webinars, and developing curated guides to empower families with practical tools and knowledge. The Security Center aims to be an amalgamation.

I understand that parenting can be hard. It can be difficult to know ‘where to draw the line’ on monitoring your kids' usage while allowing them their privacy (this depends on their age as well). There can be a fine line between monitoring and controlling and that can always be a scary thought. Above all, it is about knowledge. By equipping families with the right knowledge, we can empower children to explore the internet safely and responsibly. Join the Security Center to be part of this mission.
